Journalist shares what contacts in Spain have told him about Santiago Bueno

Santiago Bueno’s initial performance for Wolves may have been shaky, but there are reasons to believe he will improve in the future. The central defender was thrust into the starting lineup against Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup, where he had a promising start but encountered difficulties as Wolves struggled as a team.

Bueno had limited training time with Wolves before this match, having arrived late in the summer transfer window from Girona for around £8.5 million and then joining the Uruguay national team during the recent international break. Given these circumstances, his display against Ipswich was somewhat expected.

Journalist Liam Keen offered a positive outlook on Bueno during the latest E&S podcast, acknowledging that Bueno has work to do to secure a spot in the starting XI.

Craig Dawson and Max Kilman are currently favored choices under Gary O’Neil, with Toti Gomes as the third option. Keen looked back on the Ipswich defeat and noted that in the first 20/25 minutes, Wolves were in control and Bueno displayed an aggressive style, reminiscent of a typical Uruguayan defender, but he was occasionally caught out of position and reacted slowly on some occasions.

However, Keen emphasized the need for patience when assessing Bueno’s potential.

Wolves closing in on £8.5 million defender, personal terms agreed

Reports from Spain suggest that he is a player who should adapt to the Premier League in the short to medium term. Bueno’s age, athleticism, and height all indicate that he could prove to be a valuable signing. Breaking into the starting lineup may take time, especially given O’Neil’s preferences for Dawson and Kilman, so both Bueno and fans should remain patient.

While Bueno’s debut may not have gone as he had hoped, the positive remarks from Keen provide hope for his future prospects at Wolves.
