Due to an injury, Newcastle forward Alexander Isak has been forced to withdraw from Sweden’s squad for this international break.
Isak has excelled since his arrival on Tyneside, scoring a brace in the Magpies’ 2-2 draw with West Ham last Saturday.
However, the Swede was forced to leave the game early due to a potential knee injury.
He also suffered a serious cut above his eye during Newcastle’s Champions League match against PSG.
Isak initially joined Sweden’s squad, but he was returned home to heal when doctors inspected his ailment.
Sweden begins the break with an easier game against Moldova in a friendly before meeting Belgium in a Euro 2024 qualifier.
With two victories and three losses, the Scandinavians are third in the table, trailing only Belgium and Austria.
‘Alexander Isak quits the men’s national team’s European Championship qualifying squad,’ according to a team statement.
‘The Newcastle striker arrived with an injury report from Sunday’s game against West Ham and was examined by the Swedish national team’s medical team on Monday.
‘After that, it is apparent that Isak will be unavailable for games next week, including the European Championship qualifier against Belgium on Monday.’
