Nottingham Forest already identify replacement for injured star who is out for 4-weeks

Morgan Gibbs-White lauded Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood following Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. The talisman took the field first, ahead of Taiwo Awoniyi, who is out for a month.

Wood made his first start for Forest this season against Palace. He has looked much sharper in 2023/24 and will be eager to add more goals to his game if he is given a chance in the team.

On Saturday, Gibbs-White came the closest to scoring for Forest. His lofted effort beat Sam Johnstone, but it hit the post and bounced back to the goalkeeper.

Gibbs-White praises Wood following Forest’s performance

After the game, the player was quick to pay appreciation to Awoniyi. He believes Forest will miss his presence and pace, but he believes Wood can step in.

“We have different strikers who can create a different role,” he told BBC Sport. Wood deserves credit; he’s a fantastic player who complements Taiwo in a unique way.

“We lacked Taiwo’s pace in the backfield, but we had Wood’s hold-up play.” He adds a new dimension to the game. We have good competition now, so we will miss him, but we have individuals who can perform the job.”

Wood now has a genuine opportunity to flourish.

This could be the opportunity that Wood has been looking for at Forest. His time has come, and he should have plenty of chances to show his head coach what he’s capable of.

In August, Wood scored the game-winning goal for Nottingham Forest against Sheffield United. His header exemplified the type of player he is, but he now wants to score more.

Newcastle signed the player in the January transfer window. The Reds paid £15 million to sign him permanently after a loan, but he will be out of contract in the summer.

He’s clearly a popular character in the locker room. With Awoniyi going to be absent for a long, the player will look to show that he can carry the Reds’ goalscoring baton.
