According to the Chronicle Live, Sunderland playmaker Alex Pritchard is set to return following the international break.
Sunderland have been missing the attacking midfielder in their previous two Championship games, which have come against Watford and Middlesbrough. Last time out, they were defeated 4-0 by the latter.
Pritchard, 30, is out due to a calf issue. His most recent outing came late last month against Sheffield Wednesday.
According to the Chronicle Live, he is expected to be ‘available’ for their trip to Stoke City on Saturday, October 21st. Last time out, he was reported to be on the verge of joining the Boro team.
Incoming Sunderland boost
Sunderland will benefit greatly from having Pritchard back as they prepare to face the Potters. He injects more money and quality into their young ranks.
When the Black Cats were in League One in 2021, they signed the former England youth international. Since then, he has made 97 appearances in all competitions and scored eight goals, four of which came last season.
In his debut year, Pritchard helped the North East club earn promotion from the third division. The Orsett-born player was a member of the team that reached the play-offs under Tony Mowbray last season.
Prior to joining Sunderland, he played for Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City, and Huddersfield Town. His contract at the Stadium of Light expires in June 2024, which means he has entered the final year of his contract.
Mowbray’s men are now fourth in the rankings, having collected 19 points from their first 11 games. They trail the top two by nine points.
Their defeat to Middlesbrough came as a shock, and they will be desperate to bounce back at the first opportunity when they meet Stoke after the break.
