Both Paul Merson and Harry Redknapp predict a Blues win over Burnley as Mauricio Pochettino is given three players who must play Chelsea are expected to maintain their recent strong form when they go to newly promoted Burnley on Saturday. Vincent Kompany’s team won their first game of the season on Tuesday, defeating fellow relegation challengers Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
Sheffield United are still bottom of the standings after eight games, although Burnley haven’t caught the eye as much as many had predicted.
Only the Blades have conceded more goals this season than last season’s Championship winners, and in the lack of a proven goalscorer, they have been found wanting in attack as well.
Although Burnley appears to be strong between the lines and has been praised for their bravery and pressing style, the club has yet to live up to the expectation in terms of results. There are numerous parallels with Chelsea, who have looked good at times despite their low point tally so far.
The Blues are only four points ahead of their opponents going into the game, having won their second match of the season away to Fulham on Monday.
With a win, they can continue their slow ascent up the ladder and boast the league’s second best defense.
Burnley might possibly close the gap on Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but have been given little chance of doing so. Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, writing for BetVictor, isn’t optimistic about an upset at Turf Moor.
“What a huge victory for Burnley.” You just felt like they needed that win, and you never truly settle until you get your first. They need to fortify Turf Moor; going up there and getting a result shouldn’t be as simple as it has been.
“It’s taken some time, but I see some progress in Chelsea.” They were solid against Fulham, and I thought two players in particular, [Enzo] Fernandez and [Levi] Colwill, stood out. Fernandez is a World Cup winner, therefore he has a lot of skill on the ball. Colwill, on the other hand, what a talent. I have to go after Chelsea.”
He also mentioned a third player to keep an eye on, adding, “He finally got off to a good start the other day, and I think [Mykhailo] Mudryk will relax and start to show his talent.” There’s a legitimate player here.”
Burnley 0-2 Chelsea, according to Rednapp’s prediction.
Paul Merson thinks along the same lines. “Chelsea got a major confidence boost against Fulham the other day,” the Arsenal legend wrote in his Sportskeeda blog. Mudryk’s issue is decision-making; it’s a crucial component of the game that he struggles with.
“I think he’s been trying a little too hard.” He needs to relax because he is an excellent player. The goal against Fulham would have done wonders for his confidence.
“Armando Broja looked like a major threat up front as well, and he’ll be like a new signing for Chelsea.” It’s fantastic news for them that he’s returned, as he might save them a lot of money in the future. Conor Gallagher appears to be a mainstay in midfield as well – football can change so rapidly.
“Burnley produced an outstanding performance against Luton Town.” They played well at home versus United but were blown out in their other games. They’ll give it their all at home, but Chelsea should be able to win.”
