Steve Cooper has confirmed that defender Nuno Tavares will miss Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Cooper admitted last week that he could return before the international break after hobbling off in the 2-0 loss at Manchester City.
However, it appears that Saturday will be too soon for the Arsenal loanee, allowing Harry Toffolo to enjoy a well-deserved start at left-back.
Toffolo came on in the 60th minute against Brentford, putting in a solid performance at left-back before setting up Nicolas Dominguez for his inch-perfect header.
Nuno Tavares, according to Steve Cooper
Cooper confirmed during his pre-game press conference yesterday that Tavares is unlikely to return before the international break.
“I don’t think we’ll see Nuno until after the international break.”
Cooper’s news conference was brief, but with Tavares still out injured, it underscores Forest’s lack of depth at left-back.
At left-back, there is a lack of depth.
Despite the fact that there is only one game left before a two-week international break, Forest’s lack of bodies in the left-back area may be cause for concern.
Every Forest supporter is aware of the club’s struggles at left-back.
Toffolo is the Reds’ sole out-and-out left-back, with Moussa Niakhate suspended, Tavares injured, and Ola Aina not yet entirely healthy.
Toffolo is more than capable of playing on the left side, and hopefully he gets his chance from the start on Saturday, following up on his great performance on Sunday.
