Alan Shearer has responded on social media to the news that Kieran Trippier has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Month following an exceptional run of play for Newcastle United.
Shearer commented on X after being named one of seven nominees for the award, with Mo Salah, Son Heung-min, and Olly Watkins.
Kieran Trippier was instrumental in Newcastle’s recovery after a difficult start to the season. During September, the 33-year-old had four assists, including a hat-trick of assists in an 8-0 win over Sheffield United.
Alan Shearer praises Kieran Trippier following his award nomination.
And, of course, he was excellent in Newcastle’s Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night. He assisted on one goal in the 4-1 win, and it was his free-kick that set up Dan Burn to double Eddie Howe’s side’s lead.
Obviously, his performance had no bearing on his nomination. However, it emphasizes how good he has been in recent weeks.
Certainly, Alan Shearer believes Trippier is deserving of the accolade…
Rightly so as well.

Newcastle’s star has proven to be an excellent acquisition.
Trippier has made a huge influence on Newcastle since joining from Atletico Madrid. The right-back’s move to
Tyneside appeared to be a huge risk for the Magpies, who appeared to be on the verge of relegation.
Newcastle benefited greatly from his arrival. He pushed the bar higher. And his move most likely had an effect on others who followed him through the St James’ Park door for the duration of that window.
Newcastle hasn’t looked back since. In less than two years, they have annihilated PSG in the Champions League.
Many Newcastle fans will remember Trippier’s departure as a watershed moment for the club in the years to come.
