19-year-old midfielder could leave Nottingham Forest in January for lack of game time

Chelsea are considering recalling Andrey Santos from his loan at Nottingham Forest, where he joined just over a month ago.

The 19-year-old midfielder has yet to make his Premier League debut, having just played once in a Carabao Cup defeat to Burnley on August 30.

On September 23, he was not even named to Steve Cooper’s matchday team against Manchester City.
The Brazilian, who joined the Blues from Vasco da Gama, was in terrific form in pre-season, but Chelsea’s midfield is already overcrowded.

His lack of playing time has undoubtedly disappointed Chelsea fans who were eager to watch the youthful talent blossom.

According to The Athletic, there are now calls for Chelsea to recall him in January by invoking a break clause in the loan agreement.

Forest are also thought to face mutually agreed-upon financial penalties if Santos is not used when he is healthy.
Santos was signed in January for £18 million but did not match the work permit conditions at the time and was loaned back to his former club.

After finishing the season in Brazil, Santos has returned to west London and has been training with the Blues ahead of his work visa application.

Before the Blues beat Manchester City and Newcastle to his signature, the 19-year-old was regarded as a wonderkid in his native Brazil.

After making his debut for the Brazilian national team in March of this year, Santos has already demonstrated that he has experience beyond his years.

‘It’s been a wonderful experience,’ the central midfielder said of his time with the Brazil senior side thus far. I’m overjoyed since my dream has come true.

‘I feel at ease because they treated me so wonderfully. Being by Casemiro’s side, beside an idol, is a dream come true for me. I’m living a dream, and it’s really helping me.

‘And I hope to be able to reciprocate his help on the field and the experience he gave me too.’
