Latest- Burnley confirm contract offer to ‘outstanding’ defender

Jack McEvilly signed a two-year scholarship in the summer, but despite missing much of the season due to injury, the huge central defender has already impressed enough at the club to earn his first professional contract.

The 17-year-old, who has been with the club since the age of twelve, has now signed a fresh one-year contract extension with the Clarets.

Prior to signing his scholarship, he was connected with a number of other clubs, with Rangers allegedly confident at one point in convincing him to transfer to Ibrox. He stayed at Burnley, however, and signed the scholarship.

It’s fantastic news that he’ll be with us until 2026, and McEvilly, who has recently returned to the field, stated after signing the contract: “I’m proud to have signed my first professional contract with Burnley Football Club.” I’m glad to be back in the lineup after my injury, and I’m also glad that I can continue to grow here at the club.”
