Kylian Mbappé will be one of the top players for the foreseeable future, and many young people will look forward to him. That admiration, though, may have begun after Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier recounted a comical anecdote about his son and the 24-year-old winger.
Trippier informed media ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match at St. James’ Park that his kid is a fan of his and would prefer to take the pitch clutching the Frenchman’s hand.
“He’s obsessed with Mbappé,” Trippier revealed to reporters (via Paris Fans). “He watches all of his YouTube videos.” He said he wanted to go on the pitch with him [on Wednesday] and hold his hand instead of mine in the tunnel! I told him he couldn’t look at me in the corridor if that happened.”
Furthermore, the 33-year-old expressed his admiration for the 2018 FIFA World Cup based on previous meetings on the field.
“I played against him when he was starting out with Monaco at the time when I was playing at Tottenham,” Trippier said. “I also made my international debut against him for England.” He’s a tremendous player; you want to play against the best in the world, and that’s exactly what you’ll get.”
PSG will need a healthy Mbappé if they are to take all three points from St. James’ Park. The Ligue 1 giants can begin to exert control over the Group of Death. With a win, they would have six points after the first two games.
Given the hostile climate, it will not be an easy challenge, but given PSG’s quality of players, it is achievable.
